Time flies.....

It was not too long ago that I was a sixteen year old girl living in a small town. I was determined to leave town, travel the world, make a difference in the world, and do it all while sounding and looking smart.

Not too long after that I was a twenty year girl living a fairly large town, struggling through school. I was still determined to travel the world, make a difference in the world and sound really smart.

Then I was a twenty five year old girl living in the same large city, still determined to see the world. I was given the responsibility of a demanding job where I thought I made a difference. I didn't seem to be traveling too much and I definitely did not look smart in scrubs. At least I pretended to be smart at home (I lived alone and no one could tell me otherwise).

Suddenly I was a thirty old woman. A woman....no longer a girl. I had seen parts of the world....I could sound smart...I often sounded confused. I once again lived in a small town. I was still trying to make a difference in the world.

Now at 32...I'm more woman then ever. I have completely shed my young girl skin and accepted motherhood. I live in a small town and realize why my parents never "moved any place cool." I try to make a difference everyday to two very important people that I love very much. Most of the time I pretend I'm smart and people believe me. I'm still looking for the rest of the world....

But that young girl still tugs at my heart, demanding to be heard. Demanding to be taken "cool places" and to "make a difference". So I embrace her, dress my little girl up for Halloween and head to my small town's Halloween Party. Because, in the end, it is a really neat place to be. And to this 32 year old woman that makes all the difference in the world.

I remember 25 year old Lisa! She was upbeat and idealistic and looked as smart as you can in scrubs!
