Well it's official. School starts next week and therefore summer is over. And I haven't had a "summer" in quite a while and was starting to enjoy it. Finally school and exams were done, all the books were put away, chores were ignored. It was time to head out into the sunshine, pretend to sunbath, and read a trashy novel. Reflecting on this idea, I think all the adults of the world need to petition for a summer vacation. Months were you didn't have to set an alarm. Where you could sit in a bathing suit at the side of a pool, running your toes along the water's surface. Or you could go for a long bike ride in the middle of the day. Not to get anywhere or for exercise, but for the sheer pleasure of the wind in your face as you coasted down the "big" hill. So let's do adults. Let's protest and head outside for summer.
(In reality, I'm approaching my first teaching job at a University and am totally overwhelmed. I believe that backlash to summer is the need to put off what is coming. Oh well, maybe a new lunch box and pencil case will cheer me up. Or a trapper keeper!)
Enjoy the sunshine
